International Youth Work Week
International Youth Work Week is celebrated by the Commonwealth Youth Program every year. In keeping with the Year of Youth mandate, we are excited to announce the Youth Work Week 2023 will run from Monday, 6th November to Sunday 12th November under the theme ‘Youth work in every place and space’.
Youth work week 2023 will bring together youth workers, government officials, partners and stakeholders in the youth work space to showcase the power of youth work, sharing practical examples of how impactful and useful the youth work profession can be in our collective bid to promote positive and holistic youth development practices.
We want to use the week to promote an understanding of what youth work can look like across different settings – from parks to youth centers to hospitals to schools and more under the following sub themes:
Celebrating youth work and youth services
Building a workforce for the youth sector
Expanding the local youth offer
Impact of youth work practices
The evolving digital space
As the collective voice of youth workers across the Commonwealth, we want to talk about what our members are doing, so throughout the week, the alliance will be highlighting our members. We also intend to host some online sessions to commemorate the week. These sessions will be based around youth work in the Commonwealth, addressing challenges and issues the sector is currently facing.
As champions of youth work, we encourage all member Associations to also plan an activity, host an event, carry out a youth work tour, run a campaign etc and share with the world in our bit to promote youth work and workers. CAYWA will be holding/participating a series of youth work events during Youth Work Week. These will be opportunities for youth workers in the sector to join our sessions via Zoom to either participate in the discussions or just have a cup of coffee and listen in.
